Six members will now make up the cabinet, reduced from 10.
Council leader Philip Atkins today said the move would cut costs but insisted that it was driven by a need to make the authority run more efficiently.
The leader will now be joined by five other cabinet members but they will also be assisted by four support cabinet members.
It comes as Stafford Borough Council pushed forward plans to reduce its number of councillors by almost a third from 59 to 40.
