Officers have been teaming up with wardens from Sandwell Council to launch the initiative, following concerns raised by Tipton Green residents.

They have been patrolling and speaking to residents and dog walkers in Victoria Park and the surrounding areas, including Baker Street and Davis Avenue.

West Midlands Police said the initiative has also been launched to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area, after these were two of the priorities earmarked by residents.

Yesterday the team were out speaking to people in Tipton Green, who identified dog fouling as an issue as well as speeding motorists and street drinking.

Sergeant Dave Rogers, from the Tipton Green Neighbourhood Team, said: "We have been out in the neighbourhood today working with local dog wardens to target dog fouling and anti-social behaviour across Tipton Green.

"Both of these issues have been highlighted to us by members of the community and these patrols give us a high visibility presence in the local area.

"As part of today's action we have also been speaking to local people and encouraging them to share any concerns they have.

"We always listen to our residents and would ask anyone with any issues that they would like us to tackle to contact us on 101 or email the team via tiptongreen@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk."

Last month the speeds of more than 350 cars were checked in a police operation after residents' concerns about driving in Bloomfield Road and Park Road West in the town.

In all, 28 people were stopped and advised about their speed and road safety, as they were found to be speeding in the 30mph zones. Two of these were issued fixed penalty notices for £60 and three penalty points.

The team have also been stopping people spotted drinking in the street, and have visited off licences with underaged children to check no alcohol is being sold to those under 18. The neighbourhood team's next Neighbourhood Forum takes place on Monday, June 3, at 6.30pm at St Paul's Community Centre in Brick Kiln Street.
