Firefighters were called to the ground floor flat in Belle Vale, shortly before 12.20pm this afternoon.
Crews forced their way into the home after seeing smoke coming out of the windows.
The woman, believed to be in her late 70s, was led to safety before being given first aid at the scene.
She was taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said the fire had started when a chip pan was left unattended in the kitchen.
