It has sparked fears there could be an accident as the animals dart in front of oncoming traffic. There have been a number of recent occasions where horses have got free from Fordbrook Lane.

Pelsall councillor Marco Longhi said it was causing fear and anxiety for people who come across them, and that the animals could be hit by passing traffic.

He said: "Horses in fields off Fordbrook Lane in Pelsall have, twice at least, recently broken out of the poorly-maintained fencing and wandered across front gardens and the public highway."

Councillor Longhi said there needed to be a better partnership approach to dealing with the problem.

There have been problems in the past with firefighters and police both called.

Police issued a warning for drivers to be on their guard after horses were spotted roaming loose in the village earlier this year in January.

Officers set about trying to trace the owners of the horses and to monitor the area with other agencies.
