Worcestershire County Council officials say an election will take place on June 27 with a formal notice being sent out in due course.

Mr Kitson stepped down 14 days after he was elected amid a furore over offensive and racist comments posted on his Facebook page.

Lawyers from the Crown Prosecution Service are continuing to analyse police evidence gathered in relation to the comments to see if he can be prosecuted in court over his posts.

Worcestershire County Council spokeswoman Kirsty Crawley today said the date for the election is June 27 but a formal notice was being prepared to announce details for candidates who wish to nominate themselves.

Several people had made contact with West Mercia Police, including councillors and community leaders, to complain about the posts.

A series of anti-Semitic and anti-Islamic posts were discovered on Mr Kitson's Facebook profile page. West Mercia Police officers have interviewed Mr Kitson, aged 59, from Stourport, and seized his computer.
