The event, which raises thousands of pounds for charity ever year, attracted 25 teams of amateur and experienced rowers who took to the water.

Crowds gathered by the side of the Great Lake to watch the races and there were also stalls and a fun fair to keep families entertained during the day. The event, in its 13th year, was organised by the Rotary Club of Wolverhampton.

Among those taking part was a team with members mainly from Camden Electrical Wholesalers, which has sites in Oldbury and Stourbridge, and members of the White Heath Tavern football club.

They, along with captain Steve Evans, aged 29, from Gornal, were raising money for Dudley Stroke Association, a charity close to their hearts.

"Last year my gran had a stroke and I witnessed first-hand how devastating it can be. I wanted to give something back to the charity," said Mr Evans.

All dressed up in brightly coloured shirts and garlands were members of The Honolulu Boat Crew.

Rotary club member Mike Bryce, 54, of Pattingham, said:"It's a good day out with friends and it raises a lot of money for charity," he said.
