Quarry lorries in Kingswinford given night ban

Lorries will no longer be able to arrive at a quarry site late into the evening after planners agreed to change conditions as part of a 15-year review of operations.

Previously there was no cut-off point for when heavy vehicles had to stop arriving and leaving Ketley Quarry, in Dudley Road, Kingswinford.

But at a meeting of Dudley Council's development control committee members agreed to restrict access to the site for vehicles after 6pm. Unloaded and loaded vehicles will now access the site from 7.30am rather than at 7am as the company wanted.

More than 252 residents contacted the council calling for tougher measures to be imposed on the quarry, including reducing the number of hours and noise levels.

The review also tightened up a condition where vehicles leaving the quarry area from Dudley Road be subjected to cleaning.

Kingswinford South councillor Patrick Harley said he believed residents would be pleased with the changes.

"Previously there was no set control when vehicles could enter this building into the evening and now there is which will benefit residents," he said.

"I think this is a good deal. I think this protects both residents and the business."

Managing director of quarry owners Hinton, Perry and Davenhill Alex Patrick-Smith said the cut off time imposed a restriction on the way the quarry operated but the firm was not against the change.
