Karl puts war wounds on show for rock star Bryan Adams' display
War hero Karl Hinett has teamed up with Canadian rock star Bryan Adams to be part of his unique exhibition depicting the wounds of war.
Karl was invited by Adams to strip off his running vest and put his scars and tattoos on display to be part of the exhibition of striking portraits of injured soldiers.
The photographs have now gone on display in Dusseldorf in Germany in an exhibition called Bryan Adams Exposed, and the 26-year-old from Tipton went to see them on display for the first time.
As a private with the Staffordshire Regiment, Karl suffered severe burns to his hands, legs, arms and face in the bombing. His injuries were so bad he had to painstakingly learn to walk again.
But he battled back to compete in dozens of gruelling challenges to raise money for the hospital that treated him – Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Around two years ago, Karl, of Hall Lane, was approached by the rock legend to pose in the pictures for his exhibition. The aim of the photographs is to show that despite the appalling injuries of these soldiers, life goes on. His image appears next to those of 24 other injured soldiers and images of Pink, Amy Winehouse and the Queen.
Karl said that although he liked the photograph, he will not be putting a copy up in his home.
He said: "It is a bit bizarre to see yourself posed and topless like that. I think it's best to just keep it in the exhibition."
