It's Brighton or bust for Wolves fans
A travelling army of 2,000 Wolves fans was on the south coast today hoping for a last-gasp miracle in their team's battle against relegation.
The sell-out following was cheering on Dean Saunders' men in their must-win match against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex stadium.
And supporters were keeping a close eye on events elsewhere, with Wolves needing a big win as well as defeats for Peterborough and Barnsley to preserve their Championship status.
A convoy of coaches and cars clad in old gold and black set out from Molineux early today for the 12.45pm kick-off, with Wolves needing a five-goal swing over Peterborough to avoid an historic second successive relegation.
Their fate was being decided this afternoon, with supporters facing the prospect of watching League One football next season unless Wolves can pull off what would represent perhaps the greatest of last-day escapes.
They were hoping for a repeat of Survival Sunday back in 2011, when Stephen Hunt's 87th-minute goal helped Wolves stay in the Premier League during a dramatic finale played out at Molineux.
Fans have been sending their messages of support to the team all week as Saunders and his players prepared for the crunch clash with Brighton, who have already secured a place in the play-offs. Owner Steve Morgan faces being hit with a huge reduction in revenue if Wolves fail to beat the drop, with TV cash lost and attendances expected to plummet.
He will also have to fork out a refund to all the 9,000 supporters who have renewed their season tickets under the Early Bird scheme, after chief executive Jez Moxey pledged each fan would receive a reimbursement if Wolves went down. Wolves would make unwanted history by becoming the first team to be relegated from the top division to the third tier in successive seasons, twice.
