Girls go burlesque to join Pin-Ups

A vintage cabaret troupe from the West Midlands is hitting the high notes after being boosted by an influx of new blood.

The Pin-Ups were set up three years ago by dancer Jemma Bird.

The 25-year-old from Aldridge decided to launch the group while studying dance at university, and originally had just a handful of girls on the books.

But she is now one of a bevy of 12 beauties, including singers and dancers from around the country, who put on their burlesque shows.

Miss Bird said: "It is lovely to have so many of us now. It means when someone books us for a show, we can cater for difference events and budgets. So there could be as few as just three of us doing the performance, or even all 12 of us if they would like."

Miss Bird, who works in an office during the day, said the job of running The Pin-Ups was quite demanding.

"It is a lot of work and it does feel as if I have two full-time jobs," she said.

"But it's great and I get a lot of enjoyment from it.

"Having the extra girls has also meant I am able to take more of a back seat from the performing while still putting on the shows, and I am able to concentrate on a few other things."

Miss Bird has recently invested more time and money into the group's website.

"We have new branding and a new logo. It is also great having the new girls here as we have some very talented singers and dancers, and it is making the group really exciting to work with," she added.

The group has also been nominated in the National Vintage Awards for best vintage style musical act.
