New college boss starts as Ofsted back on site
A new boss was taking over City of Wolverhampton College today as Ofsted inspectors visited to see if they would revise its inadequate rating, it has been revealed.
Mark Robertson was officially taking over today from the interim principal of one year John Hogg.
It comes as education watchdog Ofsted is revisiting for a full inspection to see whether to alter its previous rating of the institution. The rating given was the worst in a four-point scale and was revealed in a report published last March. Inspectors will be at the college until Friday.
Mr Hogg will however remain at the organisation during the inspection, as he is staying until the end of a month-long handover period.
Mr Robertson was deputy principal at South Staffordshire College for four years and before that he was vice principal for curriculum and quality at Cannock Chase Technical College.
The 53-year-old was picked from a shortlist of six candidates.
The results of a follow-up monitoring visit by Ofsted were published eight months after the college's inadequate rating was made public. The watchdog then re-assessed six areas highlighted in the critical report. Of those six, four were judged to have made 'reasonable progress' in improving. Measures to remedy issues and further action was working, assessors then found.
In the other two areas, progress had been made but it was too early to say how effective the changes would be long-term, so the judgement in those two areas was 'insufficient progress' was made. It is however hoped that the college can turnaround its last rating, during the watchdog's visit.
