Temporary Wolverhampton bus service is set up
Transport bosses have stepped in to restore a bus service to a Wolverhampton estate after hundreds of elderly residents were left stranded when a route was scrapped.
The 68 Arriva service from Cannock to Wolverhampton no longer runs through the Long Knowle estate in Wednesfield after the company changed its services.
But Centro has now set up the temporary number 65 after ward councillor Steve Evans raised concerns.
It will serve the estate in the short-term and Councillor Evans is meeting Centro bosses on Friday in a bid to find a permanent solution.
The new 65 service runs from Wolverhampton bus station, around the city centre, along Wolverhampton Road to Wednesfield and then loops around the Wood End and Long Knowle areas before returning to Wednesfield and Wolverhampton.
Councillor Evans is meeting Centro chiefs on Friday and said he was confident a long term arrangement could be found.
He said: "This is a positive development – I was really disappointed with the way Arriva approached this but I'm pleased Centro has got involved."
Centro spokesman Steve Swingler added: "Centro has stepped in with taxpayers money to pay for a temporary service from yesterday serving those parts of the Long Knowle area that previously had Arriva's 68 service. The temporary 65 service will run until July 27."
