Black Country cycleway features in new Coldplay video

A Black Country cycleway is probably not the setting you would think of when it comes to filming a new Coldplay video.

But thanks to a couple from South Staffordshire the route in Bilston is now being screened on televisions across the world after a clip they filmed at the site was picked to appear in a video by the popular British band for a new campaign by the charity Oxfam.

Around 7,000 people across the world filmed themselves in a bid to secure a slot on the video of the acoustic version of Coldplay's 2002 song In My Place which has been released in a bid to highlight the issue of corporate land grabs.

However only around 50 – including a film by Perton couple Dan and Gursharon Cooper as well as appearances by Hollywood star Dominic Cooper and the singer Ed Sheeran – made it into the final version.

Those who applied were asked to record themselves doing something every day, such as putting make-up on, in an unusual location.

The pair, who both work in education and are fans of the band, filmed a concrete sculpture of a sofa and television set at the site which is on a cycle route adjacent to the Black Country Route. Their clip showed Mrs Cooper appearing to watch the television.

They were joined by their friend, and professional photographer Richard Davison-Williams who took photographs which formed part of their entry.

Amateur film enthusiast Mr Cooper, aged 34, said: "We took a remote control and a cup of tea and my wide curled up on the sofa like she was watching the television. We received an email before it was released to say we were more than likely going to be featured."

Mrs Cooper added: "I was over the moon when I heard we were on the video."
