Stray dog turns up in Wolverhampton - 80 miles from home
A stray dog found on the streets of Wolverhampton has baffled vets – after its microchip revealed he comes from Bolton.
Max, a two-year-old Patterdale Terrier, was discovered by a passer-by in Bushbury on Sunday.
His chip revealed details of the name and address of one of his previous owners in Bolton who says he had sold him to an unknown person.
So staff at Connaught House Veterinary Hospital in Tettenhall Road have no idea how he ended up 80 miles away on the streets of Wolverhampton.
They are now appealing to see if he belongs to anyone in the West Midlands region.
The situation brings back memories for ward nurse Corrina Thacker of her cat Sheldon, who ended up in Bristol in 1997 after climbing into the back of a removal van.
The cat, which died last year, disappeared for seven weeks before being found, thanks to a chip in its collar.
She said: "It's certainly reminded me of that situation but now we just want to try and shed some light on what has happened to Max. He is a lovely calm and friendly dog and there are people who have already said they would love to have him but we need to see if anyone knows who he belongs to.
"We don't know what has happened – he could have been dumped or there could be another explanation.
"We would always encourage people to make sure they update the details on their microchips because we have so many stray dogs coming in and sometimes we can't find their owners."
Connaught House also has bases in Kingswinford and Codsall.
