Bostin! Wolverhampton to get its own version of Monopoly
London, Chicago, Milan, Berlin have got one – and now Wolverhampton can proudly say it has its own version of Monopoly.
From later this year Wulfrunians will be able to buy up some of the city's star attractions such as the Molineux, The Grand Theatre and West Park when a new version of the game based on the city goes on sale.
Board game gurus say they will be releasing the new Wolverhampton edition of the game in October.
And they want members of the public to help them decide which 22 property spots from around the city should be included on the new-look board.
Residents will be asked to vote to have their say about what sites and streets they would like to be included on the board such as The Mander Centre, Queen Square or even the Express & Star office.
The game will set shoppers back £24.99 and will be available in shops including Toys R Us, Waitrose, Waterstones, WH Smith and The Works. It will also be on sale via a number of online sites such as Amazon and Ocado.
Monopoly first hit shop shelves in the USA in 1935 and despite its age remains as popular as ever and today it is played in 111 countries and enjoyed in 43 different languages.
Dan Taylor, Monopoly manager at London-based Winning Moves UK, the company that produces the game, said: "Wolverhampton has been on our radar for some time now.
"We were captivated by its charms and there are lots of great landmarks which could be included on the board."
Self-confessed Monopoly fan and Mayor of Wolverhampton, councillor Christine Mills, said: "Monopoly is a classic game for all the family and this is fantastic news." Residents can vote for their favourite landmark from today.
Some of the community chest and chance cards are being customised too and there are plans for one to say 'You will be fined for going to Birmingham'.
Voting for the public will be open until May 24.
People can nominate a landmark or street via email at wolverhampton@:winningmoves.co.uk or via the webpage found at www.facebook.com/wolverhamptonmonopoly
