West Brom kit-man Dave Matthews dies at 67
West Bromwich Albion were today mourning the death of long-serving kitman Dave Matthews, who has died at the age of 67.
Mr Matthews, who served the Baggies for more than 50 years, died suddenly at his home in Halesowen last night.
He leaves a wife, Carol, and daughters Alison and Clare.
Mr Matthews fought a battle with cancer and was later diagnosed with a rare heart condition but had appeared to be in good health and attended Wolves' game against Huddersfield on Saturday with Alison, who is a staff member at Molineux having previously worked for Albion.
Mr Matthews, from Hasbury, Halesowen, began working at Albion the age of 15.
Sporting and technical director Richard Garlick said today: "Everyone at the club is deeply shocked and saddened to learn of Dave's passing. Dave made many friends during his loyal 51 years' service."
