Walk in memory of stab victim Christina Edkins
Dozens of friends and family of stabbing victim Christina Edkins turned out for a three-mile fundraising walk. in memory.
Walkers, who wore T-shirts with the slogan Walk With Christina and purple ribbons in her memory, did two circuits around Leasowes Park, Mucklow Hill, Halesowen, yesterday, near where the 16-year-old went to school at Leasowes High.
In total they raised about £100 which will go towards a memorial in the park or in Birmingham, where Christina was stabbed to death on her way to school on the bus on Hagley Road on March 7.
The event was organised by Jon Kelley, a friend of the Birmingham teenager. He said: "I came up with the idea after the protest, which we were due to hold a couple of weeks ago, was cancelled. It's been a good day, everyone was really motivated.
Fundraisers hoped to spread that positive message further after getting involved with pressure group Anti-Knife UK.
Phillip Simelane, aged 22, of Walsall, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court charged with Christina's murder.
