Look carefully – a surprise is looming

At first glance this spectacular scene from the London Olympics opening ceremony appears to be a photograph.

But this incredible image from has actually been made by skilled weavers in the Midlands on a revolutionary high-definition carpet loom.

The unique rug, boasts 32 different colours to make up the firework display high in the sky above the iconic Olympic Stadium.

The Axminster has been made by 230-year-old carpet manufacturer Brintons in Kidderminster and measures 6ft 4in high by 9ft 4in wide.

Named the Fireworks Rug, Brintons bosses say the one-off piece of art captures the excitement of the opening ceremony.

The work was auctioned for charity at an Olympic ball, raising £3,000 for budding athletes.
