Princess Margaret's jewels on sale at NEC Birmingham
[gallery] From diamond jewellery to the four-poster bed where she is believed to have been born, dozens of items owned by the late Princess Margaret have gone on sale.
Thousands of people were at the NEC, Birmingham, for the first day of the Antiques for Everyone event yesterday.
The Princess Margaret Collection, being sold by Riverside Antiques, ranges from a £750,000 flawless 5.16 carat diamond ring, made for her in 1970, and a Cartier watch bought for her by the Queen Mother for her 20th birthday.
The art deco watch, now worth £175,000, was bought second hand. Other items include a solid gold clock, worth £150,000, given to her on the birth of her son David in 1961, plus trinkets, paintings and photos.
Riverside Antiques director Helen Haynes said: "It shows she appreciated beautiful things."
A four poster bed, not at the fair due tof its size, is priced at £275,000. It is widely believed to be the bed she was born in.
Mechanical propelling pencils created by Sampson Mordan in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter are for sale. A gold Nelson's column pencil is worth £10,000.
The collection of some 600 pencils, is on offer for an undisclosed six-figure sum.
Original production images from the Walt Disney Studio are among non-antique items. David Smith of Neptune Fine Art, Derbyshire, has a collection including original pencil drawings of Mickey Mouse, on notepaper, dating from about 1931, drawings from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and original painted film cells of the Pooh Bear films.
About 250 dealers will sell works of art, period furniture, decorative pieces and collector's items at the NEC until Sunday.
Opening times are 11am-6pm today and Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday.
