Five West Midlands Blockbuster stores saved

The future of five Blockbuster stores in the West Midlands has been secured after an investment group snapped up the sites.

They are among 264 stores nationwide bought out of administration by restructuring specialists Gordon Brothers Europe. The move saved more than 2,000 jobs.

Locally the company has bought the stores in Penn Road, Wolverhampton; Bridgnorth Road, Wollaston; Dudley Street, West Bromwich, Church Street, Cannock; and Crossley Retail Park, Kidderminster. The store in High Street, Brownhills, was not included in the sale.

The future of the DVDs and games rental chain had been in doubt since its collapse in January this year. The stores will continue to operate on a "business as usual" basis and will see substantial investment from the new owners.
