Sandwell Hospital stroke unit will be officially launched

The first phase of a £2.8 million new stroke unit will be officially unveiled at Sandwell Hospital on Monday.

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust has overhauled its acute stroke services, which will see ward improvements as well as the introduction of a £700,000 new CT scanner.

And on Monday to mark the opening of the new unit, former patients will cut a ceremonial ribbon.

The new acute stroke and neurology unit is part of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trusts plans to concentrate all its services for stroke patients and neurology inpatients at one hospital.

Spokesman Dr Kamel Sharobeem said: "The new unit is an exciting development for everyone in Sandwell and West Birmingham. It gives all our patients access to a high quality stroke service which will see them treated by experts and given the care and support they need during recovery."
