Wolverhampton canal bikers spur raft of complaints

Nuisance bikers have been tearing up a Wolverhampton canal path forcing pedestrians to dive for cover, according to the boss of a marine company.

Orph Mable runs Oxley Marine and says ever since the towpath was widened a group of bikers have been racing along the canal side between Pendeford and Aldersley.

The 61-year-old claims the motorcyclists have churned up the paths and members of the public walking along the waterside have had to jump on fences to avoid them.

Mr Mable, who has run the business in Oxley with his wife Janet for five years, says the problem has never been so bad. He said: "These are not just kids doing this – there are lads in their 20s involved.

"The chips from the motorbikes are peppering the canal boats. Sometimes they have two people on at a time and the noise is deafening."
