Wednesbury crimewave will result in more patrols
A mini crimewave has hit part of Wednesbury with a 131 per cent increase in crime over the first two weeks of February, compared with the same period last year.
There were 44 crimes in the Wednesbury North ward between February 1 and 14 compared with 19 for the same period last year.
West Midlands Police said patrols will be increased in the area.
Sgt Steve Knight neighbourhood policing manager stated in a report to Wednesbury town leaders the high figures were due to ten crimes being committed on February 9 and six on February 11.
Incidents included shoplifting from TK Maxx, in Axletree Way. Theft of a mobile phone during a distraction burglary at a hair salon, in Upper High Street.
Among six crimes reported on February 12 was the removal of the CCTV system by burglars at the Fitness First gym, in Hallens Drive.
Sgt Knight said: "While it is disappointing that we have seen a two-week blip, with crime levels in the north of Wednesbury rising temporarily this month, we are working hard to reduce offences and the number of people who fall victim to crime in this area."
