Pelsall children's centre and library is welcomed
The long-awaited opening of Pelsall's new library and children's centre will create a "beautiful building" at the heart of the village, it was claimed today.
Pelsall Library is finally set to open on March 19. It is part of the £4.5 million Pelsall Village Centre, in High Street, which has been hailed as a "fantastic development".
Bad weather has delayed work on the opening of the library and children's centre in the past.
But it has now emerged the temporary library currently set up in Norton Road will close on Saturday with books being moved across in time for March 19.
Pelsall Councillor Marco Longhi said people of the village were waiting with "bated breath" for the opening.
"We have been a bit frustrated with the length of time it's taken to open, but we are absolutely delighted it will be fully open soon," he said. "It combines a number of services which people will find very, very useful under the same roof.
"It is a fantastic development which has been designed very cleverly by architects. There's great anticipation for the new facility. People have kept asking when it will open."
The library, which will boast self-service technology, will occupy the ground floor of the complex alongside the children's centre and pharmacy.
GPs already moved into the doctor's surgery section in December, a month later than originally planned. Four GPs are now based there.
Walsall's leisure chief, Councillor Anthony Harris said: "We're really looking forward to being able to open a new library in the new Pelsall Village Centre on March 19.
"It really is a beautiful building. The temporary library in Norton Road will close at the end of play this Saturday.
"That will ensure there is plenty of time for staff to move library stock and equipment over to the new centre."
The new health complex replaces the village's outdated medical centre and was funded by Walsall Council and NHS Walsall.
