A worker at a Black Country firm has scooped £6.3 million on the National Lottery.

Robin Kiddie bought the ticket in Kidderminster on his pay day from Cradley Heath-based Kingfisher Industrial.

He and wife Christine, both aged 60, won the cash as part of a six-strong family syndicate after selecting their numbers through a combination of birthdays and old pools numbers.

Mr Kiddie, a commercial and export sales manager, said they were still trying to get their heads around the huge win. He said he did not realise that he had won until he checked his numbers online at work on Monday.

He said he tried to call Christine to tell her the good news but she was upstairs and could not hear the phone ringing.

The father of four, who lives in Ludlow, then texted his three daughters and only son with the simple message: "I've got some good news, we've won £6.3 million on the lottery".

Speaking at a Press conference at the Fishmore Hall hotel in Ludlow today, Robin said he glanced at the winning lottery numbers on teletext on Sunday night and thought some may have been the same as his own.

He said: "I thought I may have up to four numbers on one line, but as it was late, I went to bed and decided to check in the morning.

"I arrived at work after 8am and decided to go online and check the lottery numbers to see whether we had won and how much it might be.

"As soon as the numbers came up on screen, I realised we had all six on one line.

"I couldn't believe it and thought it was a mistake. I checked and checked in disbelief. I asked one of my colleagues to come and check for me. I can remember I was shaking and couldn't take it in.

"I knew I had to call Camelot, but it was only 8.30am and the phone line wasn't open until 9am.

"I tried to call Christine but as we have no phone upstairs, she didn't hear it."

The couple, who will celebrate their ruby wedding in April, also have five grandchildren and said they intended to share the cash with their daughters, 39, 37 and 36, and their son, 32.

The winning ticket was bought at Tesco in Kidderminster. Mr Kiddie said he now plans to retire, while Mrs Kiddie is yet to decide whether she will continue to work as a bank nurse at Ludlow Hospital.

But they have already agreed that one of their first purchases with the windfall will be a new Mercedes.

The couple are following in the footsteps of a husband and wife from Oswestry who scooped £1m on the Euromillions lottery last month.

Sue and James Schofield hit the jackpot in the special New Year's Day Euromillions raffle draw.
