He had been walking his beloved Jack Russell dog, called Jack, as he was hit.

Mr Betts was taken to Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, on January 16 but died two weeks later.

Today police said a Citroen car found at a garage in the Walsall area had given them significant leads. They also interviewed a man, 40, who visited officers voluntarily. No-one has been arrested.

Keen Aston Villa fan Mr Betts met wife Lilian 68 years ago and they had lived in Barrs Road for more than 30 years.

Chris Blount, of West Midlands Police's collision investigation unit, said the car recovered by the investigation team would undergo tests to see if it was involved.
