Wayne Bishop had been out drinking in Oldbury when he attacked the victim.

He had to have a plate and screws fitted to deal with the injuries inflicted, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Sentencing him, Judge Michael Challinor described Bishop as 'a danger to the public'.

Bishop, 28, of Durham Road, Rowley Regis, had spoken to the man but as he walked away he and another person attacked.

Mr David Swinnerton, prosecuting, said: "He was prevented from moving by Mr Bishop and he was punched to the floor. He was then punched and kicked as he was on the floor and the victim's wife says there was a stamp involved."

Mr Nicholas Berry defending said Bishop had never been in employment and had no qualifications. Drinking did not excuse his actions but offered an explanation of why he got into trouble on that day."

Bishop admitted unlawful wounding in May 2011. The judge warned another serious offence would mean an indefinite sentence.
