The crook knocked on the door of her house claiming he needed the toilet but then shoved her out of the way.

She tried to challenge him but was pushed to the ground by the thug who rifled her handbag and property. Her husband was in the garden at the time of the brazen daylight raid in Cannock.

Two wallets containing around £300 were taken and a Second World War campaign medal, which had the head of King George on one side and a lion on the other, with the dates 1939 to 1945 inscribed on it. The medal belonged to man's father.

He said today: "We're both very shaken up by what happened.

"You don't expect something like that to happen in your own home. The medal belonged to my father and it had a lot of sentimental value.

"My wife is still very shaken up by it and she does keep thinking about it."

His wife was left shaken and with minor injuries.

Dc Sally Dean, investigating officer, said: "The medal taken is of great sentimental value to the victim and we would urge anyone who may know of its whereabouts to get in touch immediately."

The raider was white, in his mid-20s, around 6ft tall of an average build and with short dark hair. He wore a dark jacket and had a Cannock accent.

The attack happened at around 4pm on Friday. Anyone with information should call police on 101.
