Oldbury school balloon release tribute to Aidan Nisbett
Balloons were released outside an Oldbury school in tribute to a popular teenager who collapsed while playing football and later died.
Family and friends of 15-year-old Aidan Nisbett gathered outside Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy for the tribute.
They released 16 balloons into the air in honour of the teenager who would have celebrated his 16th birthday on February 21.
Members of Aidan's family, school staff and fellow pupils gathered outside the school in Lower City Road, at around 3.15pm for the ceremony on Friday.
All of the balloons also had 16 written on them to mark the occasion.
An inquest into Aidan's death earlier this week revealed the youngster had been suffering from an undiagnosed heart defect.
One of the arteries went deep inside the muscles and had caused a "critical compression" leading to a reduction in oxygen. The inquest was told the chances of diagnosing the condition before it was too late were slim as there were no symptoms to detect.
A verdict of death by natural causes was recorded.
Aidan's mother Jacqueline Muir said the balloon release was just one of the tributes planned for her son.
The family are also looking at having a bronze sculpture created in his memory.
School spokeswoman Elaine Edmunds said: "The event has been organised by Aidan's family and all of the pupils at the school were invited to attend. Both youngsters and staff wanted to pay tribute to Aidan."
