Crashes bring M6 rush hour delays
Motorists faced rush hour delays today after two crashes on the M6. The first happened between junction six, Spaghetti, and seven for Great Barr.
The second pile-up happened at junction nine for Wednesbury, both causing long tailbacks.
A lorry and car collided in the managed motorways section of the motorway near Great Barr at around 6.46am. No-one was injured and the road was cleared by 7.10am.
Then, at 6.58am on the southbound carriageway on the entry road at junction nine for Wednesbury, the inside lane was closed after a crash between a lorry and a car, causing delays of up to 30 minutes. Tailbacks stretched back to junction 10a of the M6 with the M54.
Highways Agency spokesman Neil Sterio said: "The car ended up facing the wrong way so that has caused long queues this morning at the start of rush hour.
"There were no injuries and it has not affected entry to the motorway, it just closed the inside lane southbound."
Meanwhile, firefighters were called to a car fire between junction one of the M5 at West Bromwich and the link to the M6 at 10.30pm last night.
The fire had started underneath a Subaru Impreza that was being towed northbound.
