Man in court on Halesowen murder charge

A man was appearing in court today accused of the murder of a 47-year-old man in Halesowen.

David Carpenter died after suffering stab wounds at his home in Graham Road on Sunday night.

A 49-year-old man from Dudley was due to appear at Dudley Magistrates' Court this afternoon charged with is his murder.

A second man, aged 28, was arrested on suspicion of using violence to secure entry to premises. He is on police bail pending further inquiries.

Neighbours in the Halesowen cul de sac have spoken of their shock.

Police arrived at the house at 9pm on Sunday. Mr Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Extra officers have been in the neighbourhood ever since to provide reassurance to residents. The house was cordoned off by police with an officer was on guard.

Neighbours said Mr Carpenter lived at the house with his wife and teenage daughter.

One neighbour, a 42-year-old woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "We're all shocked by what happened, nothing like this happens round here."
