Brown horse Stan, the elder of the two, is believed to have broken down the fence of the field in Wolverhampton Road East, Sedgley on Thursday night, before being followed down the road by the younger Frank, a ginger and white steed, and only four years old.
The roaming animals were discovered in Penn Road near the ring road by the Mercedes garage at around 8am on Friday, and are believed to have been wandering the local area through the night.
Frank's owner Lucy Spicer, an 18-year-old former farm worker, knew nothing of their escape until she received a phone call from another user of the same field on Friday morning at around 11.
Miss Spicer, of Princess Square, Bradley, said: "We were on our way to the field and received a phone call from another person who uses the field to say the fence had been broken down and Stan and Frank had gone.
"I was petrified to start with but we had heard on the radio as well that two horses were roaming about so we immediately put two and two together and drove there.
"From what we've found out since, I think they might have been out all night."
Police officers were called on Friday when the animals were first reported loose and used lengths of tape to reign the horses in and then lead them to safety.
