Staff have been laid off at The Motorhouse, Watling Street, Cannock.

Bosses today confirmed staff had been "laid off" as a result of a company restructure, but refused to reveal exactly how many had gone and whether the job losses were redundancies.

The Motorhouse spokesman Will Morris said: "A business decision has been regrettably made to down-size the business due to the unforeseen economic climate, which with regret has led to a number of lay-offs that have impacted on all departments.

"As one of the UK's leading car supermarkets that has been operating for 25 years, it becomes necessary at times to restructure our business in order to deliver the expectations of our customers in a volatile economic market.

"We are a large but close- knit business with a high regard for both staff and customers and it is with deep regret that this decision has had to be made, but is necessary in order for us to carry on delivering competitively priced cars."

Bosses at The Motorhouse, which was founded around 25 years ago, told its staff on Tuesday, according to Mr Morris.

A former employee, who did not want to be named, said she felt "worthless".
