Jail term for assault on Tipton mum
A thug who broke the arm of a Tipton woman while trying to rob her of £400 worth of jewellery has been jailed for four years and nine months.
Shaun Bayley, aged 22, and accomplice Daniel Bradley punched the woman in the face when they struck at her Tipton home while her six-year-old son slept, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard. Bradley, 18, who was a juvenile at the time of the brutal robbery bid in January 2011, was given a one year rehabilitation order with a six month night time curfew.
The victim put up her arms in a desperate attempt to shield her self from the blows herself but was punched several more times, said prosecutor Mr Howard Searle.
The pair, who had been recruited to carry out the botched robbery by another man who knew the woman, ran off empty-handed after she started to scream for help, the court was told on Tuesday.
The victim suffered a fractured arm, had three teeth loosened and received a black eyes and badly swollen lip in the attack, continued Mr Searle.
She later confessed to police that she feared for her life and had lost all trust in people as a result of the attack.
Bayley, of no fixed address, and Bradley, who lives in Bristnall Hall Lane in Oldbury pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with intent to rob.
Passing sentences, Judge John Wait told them: "The victim was assaulted in a terrifying way.
"She suffered a serious injury, her arm was fractured and a plate had to be inserted to assist recovery. The harm caused was serious."
