Co-op staff threatened in Staffordshire robbery
Cash and cigarettes were stolen in a raid on a Co-op store in Staffordshire today.
Staff were threatened as the robbers targeted the store off Landywood Lane, Cheslyn Hay, at 7am.
A police cordon was put in place at the supermarket while investigations were carried out.
An ambulance was also sent to treat a man in the store who was unconscious.
Meanwhile, forensic officers were at the store taking photographs, and police were carrying out door-to-door inquires.
The store remained closed this morning.
Staffordshire Police spokeswoman Sarah Davison said: "We were called to a report of a robbery at Co-op, Landywood Lane, Cheslyn Hay, at around 7am.
"Offenders entered the store, threatened staff and stole a quantity of cash and cigarettes. They left the scene in a vehicle. An investigation has begun, and the store is cordoned off while a forensic examination is carried out."
A neighbour living in Landywood Lane, who did not want to be named, said: "I heard all the commotion this morning.
"It's scary to think it's happening on my doorstep. I hope the guys who work there are ok." It is the second time the store has been targeted. In April last year, two balaclava-wearing robbers raided it before escaping with a "large amount" of coins.
Two shoppers were in the store at the time.
In August, extra security guards and mobile patrol vans were deployed to Co-op stores throughout the region following a string of armed raids.
