Axe held to throat of boy, 9, in Great Barr raid - father tells of terror
The father of a nine-year-old boy who was threatened with an axe during a robbery at a house in Great Barr has described the terrifying raid for the first time today.
Men with axes and sledgehammers burst into the Auluk's family home in Newton Road on Monday. They threatened Rajinder Auluk's youngest child in front of him and his wife Baljit, 45 and their teenage son Jay, 16.
The youngster was so frightened he no longer wants to live there. He fears the robbers will return to kill him and his family.
Mr Auluk, aged 40, a self-employed property developer, said: "We had just finished eating when my nine-year-old son went into the front room to get ready to watch wrestling on the TV.
"I heard a loud crash at the front door and suddenly these men with axes and sledgehammers came piling through the door," he said.
"I said 'take what you want' but they carried on shouting and held an axe to my youngest's neck.
"It was true panic.
"I was angry and frightened but my main concern was what they were going to do to the little guy. I thought he was going to cut him."
Mr Auluk's wife Baljit, 45, and teenage son Jay, 16, were also in the house during the raid.
The thieves tried to get away in both family cars – a high performance Nissan Pulsar GTR and a Mercedes CLK, but abandoned the Mercedes on the road outside the house.
Superintendent Sharon Goosen, from Sandwell Police, sought to reassure local residents. She said: "Thankfully robberies as violent as this are extremely rare but I don't underestimate the impact that this incident will have on the victims and the community."
