Charge of 20p to use toilets at Walsall bus station
A 20p charge will be made to use toilets at a town's main bus station, it was revealed today.
St Paul's Bus Station, Walsall, is being given an £80,000 revamp and bosses at Centro said the charge will help ensure toilets are kept clean and free of anti-social behaviour.
Walsall Council plans to close toilets in Pelsall, Rushall, Willenhall, Aldridge, Brownhills and Blakenall Heath to save £120,000.
Christine Statham, aged 65, of Millfield Avenue, Bloxwich, said: "There is a general lack of public toilets in Walsall without having to pay 20p to use the ones at the bus station."
Councillor Pete Smith, Democratic Labour Party member for Blakenall, said: "Unfortunately some will not pay the charges or have the right coins on them and in due course we will no doubt see the unhygienic consequences of this in and around the walls of Walsall bus station," he said.
Centro's Peter Cameron said the charge is in line with upgraded facilities at Wolverhampton and Stourbridge. Baby changing and toilets for passengers with limited mobility stay free.
