Trail of destruction as house and car hit by girders from lorry
A lorry shed its load of steel girders today, sending them crashing down into a wall outside a house and nearby parked car.
This was the scene this afternoon in Commonside, Pensnett, after girders flew off the vehicle and spilled into the road and footpath.
A blue Ford Focus had its back windows smashed and a perimeter wall around a nearby house was also damaged.
Police are investigating and said that no-one was injured.
One passer-by said: "When I passed, the driver was talking to police. It seems as though the load of steel girders was not properly secure and they came off and hit the wall and the back of a car. The car and the wall were damaged.
"The police were directing traffic and the road was blocked. The girders were all over the footpath as well."
West Midlands Police spokeswoman Deb Edmonds added: "Officers were made aware of a lorry shedding its load at about 10.30 this morning and officers attended. No-one was injured in the incident. The lorry will be recovered as soon as possible."
The incident was one of a string of accidents in the Black Country last night and today. A car hit a double decker bus head-on and a people carrier overturned during two smashes in Wolverhampton.
The woman bus driver was trapped and had to be pulled out by firefighters after the crash in Tettenhall Road at about 11.30 last night.
The car also hit a tree on the roadside. The driver was taken to hospital but the injuries were not thought to be serious.
A people carrier hit railings and flipped over in Stafford Street at about 2am. Firefighters from Wolverhampton pulled the man in his 30s out through a back door. He was unhurt.
