Jobs hope as firm eyes up Cannock base
A consultancy firm involved in the redevelopment of New York's World Trade Centre is looking to move its headquarters to Staffordshire – bringing 70 new jobs to the area.
Wintech Ltd, based in Wednesfield for around 30 years, is eyeing up a move to the Kingswood Lakeside business park in Cannock. Bosses aim to boost jobs over the next three years.
It would bring its current staff base of around 65 people and build a new building of up to 20,000 sq ft.
The facade engineering firm, which advises on design, procurement and construction of buildings, is involved in a host of international projects including the new Terminal Two facility at Heathrow Airport and one of the tallest buildings in the world, The Petronas Towers in Malaysia.
Group managing director Chris Macey said the company is looking to expand after a boost in business during the recession.
He said the attraction to Kingswood Lakeside was its convenient location, being near the M6 Toll as well as train stations and airports.
Mr Macey said: "We would have liked to stay in Wolverhampton but when we asked whether there was any land where we could develop our own site or whether there was any financial assistance available, we couldn't get answers from anyone.
"We ended up going to Cannock because the council said they may be able to help us out."
The firm has also been looking at the i54 business park in Pendeford, Wolverhampton, where firms pay a reduced business rate. Mr Macey said Cannock Chase Council is now looking into providing a more attractive offer to compete.
Cannock Chase Council said details of sums involved were confidential. The firm is likely to know for certain whether it is moving to Cannock in the next month.
