16,000 in overnight power cut across Walsall and Wolverhampton

A total of 16,000 homes were left in darkness after a power cut.

Houses in Willenhall, Bentley, Darlaston and Bilston were affected from around 5.20pm yesterday due to a problem at a sub-station and faults on two underground cables. Street and traffic lights were also affected.

Provider Western Power said electricity was restored to the majority of homes after three minutes, with most of the remaining 1,200 getting switched back on by midnight.

Spokeswoman Stella Hayward said: "Our engineers worked as quickly as possible throughout the night to resolve the issue."

At 7.30am today there were still six customers waiting be reconnected.
