Trains and school hit as region gets snow
Trains were delayed and a school was shut as snow arrived in the West Midlands and Staffordshire. Forecasters said more could be expected this afternoon.
But it was likely to disappear quickly with a mix of rain and sleet.
Gritters were out overnight to treat main roads, but side streets proved more treacherous.
There were problems on trains, with signalling problems at Stourbridge Junction delaying services between Kidderminster and Birmingham Snow Hill by up to 30 minutes.
Elsewhere, a broken down freight train near Bloxwich caused problems on the Rugeley Trent Valley to Birmingham line.
Penn Fields Special School in Wolverhampton was closed because of heating problems but racing at Wolverhampton Racecourse was given the go-ahead.
Forecasters said around 2cm of snow fell overnight.
Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said tomorrow is predicted to be around 2C (36F) but dry and sunny, and the forecast for the rest of the week is very cold but mainly dry with no further snow.
