Wolves striker Leigh Griffiths is being investigated by police and the club after becoming involved in a race row. They are investigating claims that he made a racist comment on Twitter.

The tweet was posted just before midnight last night, during an argument with one of his 13,000 followers. The post has now been removed and the 22-year-old, who is on loan to Hibernian, has apologised.

Griffiths also made references on Twitter to eating at McDonald's just a day after new Wolves manager Dean Saunders explicitly warned players to eat like athletes.

The striker has returned to Wolverhampton for three days to be assessed by Saunders. Wolves spokesman Matt Grayson today said: "The club condemns such comments in the strongest possible terms.

"The player is on loan at Hibernian. He is, therefore, subject to the disciplinary procedures of Hibernian and the Scottish Football Association."

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman confirmed they were investigating.
