Pressure to neck killed West Midlands student, 22
A student who was allegedly murdered by her Tipton boyfriend died as a result of pressure to her neck, a jury was told.
It is alleged that Daniel Jones killed South Korean Da In Lee after an argument about her hair being left in a bath plug hole.
During a murder trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday, Dr Alexander Kolar, who carried out a post mortem on Miss Lee last year, said the death had been caused by neck pressure, although it was not 'typical strangulation'.
He told the jury certain injuries which would suggest a classic strangulation, such as scratches caused by a victim trying to defend themselves, were absent.
Asked if the injuries showed signs of a 'classic manual strangulation', Dr Kolar replied: "No, not typical."
Dr Kolar said one possibility was that the injuries had been caused by a broad ligature of softer material, such as a scarf. He also said it was possible someone's forearm had been applied to Miss Lee's neck.
Mr Kolar also said the injuries to the student, of Broad Street, Birmingham, were not the kind he would expect to see from any brutal attack.
Former University of Wolverhampton student Jones, 27, of Grace Road in Tipton, is alleged to have murdered Miss Lee, 22, on April 8 last year.
Wolverhampton Crown Court has previously heard how the pair met at a church in Birmingham in 2011.
The trial continues.
