The 46-year-old former coach driver from Cannock, who became an instant millionaire last September on Ant and Dec's popular Red Or Black game, is thrilled after doctors finally identified partner Nicola Dawson's long-term mystery illness.

She has been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and given a course of steroids. The second phase of her treatment is due to start in the new year.

Hard-working Kevin was forced to give up his job with parcel express firm DHL to look after 39-year-old Nicola full-time, although bosses initially refused to accept his resignation.

With their new-found wealth the couple were able to go to Harley Street to investigate the problem.

"That was a big breakthrough. Nic has definitely picked up since the treatment began. It had gone undetected for a long time but they did a camera test and found the cause.

"It's a day-by-day, week-by-week thing but we're keeping our fingers crossed that her recovery continues. I really want to concentrate in 2013 on getting her treated and better."

The pair, with daughter Jodie, 16, moved out of their home in The Ridings, Rumer Hill, in the summer and bought a bungalow near Gailey. They currently live in a caravan on site as they wait for a new home to be built to their specifications.

"We've had the plans passed and can't wait to get started," said Kevin, who is also keen to give up smoking – but not quite yet.

"I'd like to stop but there's a bit too much going on at the moment," he said.
