The first 15 will be skilled maintenance engineers in the fields of electrical and manufacturing work and will eventually be followed by around 750 others at the £355 million site.

The West Midlands-based luxury carmaker is planning a larger recruitment campaign later in the new year.

Those taken on for the new jobs will be involved in preparing the site.

It will be for manufacturing, which is expected to start in 2014.

A JLR spokesman said: "We are currently recruiting a number of positions that will play a vital role in getting the advanced engine facility up and running. Whilst we are building the plant, the roles will be based at one of our other sites in the Midlands."

The company is looking for skilled trades people, from industrial maintenance electricians and mechanical fitters to multi-skilled electrical and mechanical technicians and toolmakers. It is offering "competitive" rates for the jobs.

The applicants will have already completed an indentured or certificated apprenticeship. The closing date for applications is the end of next December.

Meanwhile JLR is looking for a string of senior staff by the end of January.

It is offering around £35,000 a year for a maintenance engineer, process engineer, quality engineer and a tooling engineer.
