Walsall Council is looking to modernise the building to draw in more visitors and events such as concerts and conferences.

A feasibility study is being carried out into the improvements which are anticipated to cost between £400,000 and £500,000.

The full costings and details are being drawn up but are due to include a modernised kitchen, refurbished balcony and better office and meeting room areas.

The scheme is subject to the allocation of funding but the aim is to revitalise the Victorian building. It officially reopened four years ago following an initial £325,000 revamp.

Last year, the town hall generated £8,125 from 82 bookings, and its marriage licence was removed after no couples came forward to take up the chance to wed there.
