Houses scheme at site of Cross Guns pub

A well-known pub in South Staffordshire will be demolished to make way for a housing development, under plans unveiled today.

The Cross Guns, in Codsall Wood, would be knocked down and replaced with 10 houses, under the proposals.

Tatton Hall Homes has submitted a planning application to South Staffordshire District Council for the project at the pub, which shut earlier this year.

Speaking on behalf of the developers, Otto De Weijer, of Dutch Architecture And Design, said the pub had changed tenants several times over the last decade.

"Despite numerous efforts, it has not been possible to create a viable pub on the site and despite active marketing and substantial internal and exterior improvements over the year the pub is currently vacant and has been sold to the applicant," he said.

"It is hoped that with the proposed redevelopment the site will be reformed to form an attractive contribution to the village rather than being an underused, deteriorating building which occupies a very prominent position."

The proposed homes would include detached and semi-detached properties.
