Two arrests on death of former Wolverhampton headteacher Hester Mottershead
Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the death of a former Wolverhampton head who had a suspected stroke after a raid at her home.
The 18-year-olds, from Leicestershire, were today being questioned over the death of Hester Mottershead, aged 90.
She died in hospital the day after three conmen posing as officials searched her Tettenhall home.
West Midlands Police today confirmed two people were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.
Miss Mottershead had a suspected stroke after letting men into her home on August 17. She collapsed afterwards and went to hospital. The day she died, police launched a murder inquiry.
Miss Mottershead, former head of Wolverhampton Girls' High School, was known by family and friends as Stella.
Relatives described feeling "numb" after hearing of the burglary and recall seeing Miss Mottershead at New Cross Hospital the day before she died.
During her seven-years at the girls' school, before retiring in April 1983, Miss Mottershead fought to save it as the Labour-run council tried repeatedly to withdraw funding and close it.
She moved into Saxonfield about a decade ago.
