UPDATED: Arrest after man and dog killed by "hit-and-run driver" in Lichfield
A man and his dog were killed by a suspected hit-and-run driver as they walked on the pavement in Lichfield today.
They are believed to have been struck by a small, light-coloured car, on the A5127 Burton Road in Streethay at around 7.40am, close to Lichfield Trent Valley train station.
This afternoon, police revealed a 21-year-old man from the city had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into custody at Burton.
The car, which is believed to have been a Rover was travelling from the A38 towards Lichfield city centre, did not stop.
The A5127 was closed between the Cappers Lane/Eastern Avenue traffic island and the A38 junction. One lane of the southbound A38 past Streethay was also closed.
Witnesses have been urged to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 88 of December 14.
