The drivers are said to be careering down stretches of road near to Cannock Chase on Brindley Road and Pye Green Road in Hednesford. The A460, which passes through the Chase, is also being used near to The Tackeroo venue.

Cannock Chase district councillor George Adamson said elderly people living in bungalows on Pye Green Road are in fear of being knocked down.

Councillor Adamson said: "There have been a lot of complaints on the Pye Green Road up to the BT tower on the Chase.

"These roads are residential and there are elderly people living there who are fearful that should they cross the road, one of those idiots will knock them down.

"I have asked police in the past to monitor speeding on that road.

"The problem has been removed from Cannock thanks to the High Court injunction, but officers now need to double their efforts on Pye Green Road.

"As for the boy racers – just don't do it. You are putting yourselves at risk and, more importantly, innocent people."

The stretch of road is just outside the area outlined by the High Court from which boy racers were barred last week. Fellow Cannock Chase councillor for Hednesford, Alan Pearson, said: "The A460 through the Chase is a definite race track. You can hear them racing down there and coming back minutes later."

Cannock Chase local policing team commander Inspector Chris Ellerton said: "Officers will continue to carry out patrols of the area covered by the injunction, along with a number of other areas."
